Behind the Scenes – Southend Youth Council

A knife crime had been on the rise in Southend the Youth Council wanted to take action to speak directly to their peers through a film. Documenting this process from the young people’s perspective was also an important aspect.

The Solution:

We worked with the Youth Council over several sessions to devise the story of the film and to decide on the overall style of the film. However once this had happened the initial filming date had to be delayed three times due to lockdowns.

Once it was safe to film again, we resumed planning and finally, began filming. During the shoot we gave the young people a camera and sound equipment with directions to film behind the scenes footage and to interview those on set.

We edited the footage captured by the young people into the final documentary.
